Bike stickers may reduce 'doorings'
A clever idea from Australia:
THEY cost about 7¢ and could save someone's life. Now, with door-collision incidents on the rise, cycling groups are urging VicRoads to step up a near-forgotten 10-year-old program offering drivers stickers urging them to ''Look out for cyclists'', which can be stuck on side mirrors.
Seattle Randonneurs Solstice Ride
I really like this video. It somehow captures the mood of a late night ride in the northwest really well.

The Dutch version of Bike Works
I think I found this cool European city bike project before Eric! It'll appear on our Facebook page soon though I bet. And if you haven't friended us, liked us, or whatever you do on Facebook these days, do so! If you can't tell I'm not really a Facebook user...
And if you aren't familiar with Bike Works, check them out.
Are bicycles and cars in a war for American streets?
I really liked this very balanced BBC article on bikes & cars in the USA
As American cities attempt to make their streets more bicycle friendly, some tensions arise between cyclists and motorists.
In case you're going to London for 2012 (or even if you aren't going)
Check out this slideshow.
Glad to see that the velodrome is such a cool building, and they have created a space in it for BMX--and maybe a Mt Bike park after the games?--while the basketball arena is just a temporary building.
London has its priorities right!
Seattle Top Car-Bike collision spots
The PI requested some data from SDOT. The number one spot surprised me at first, mainly because I just avoid 45th whenever possible so I didn't think about it. The others don't surprise me at all.
Dicks Drive-In on 45th in Wallingford
15th Avenue NE & NE Pacific Street in the University District
25th Avenue NE and NE Blakely (the Burke-Gilman crossing)
Bellevue Avenue and East Pine Street on Capitol Hill
Eastlake Avenue East and Furhman Avenue East just south of the University Bridge
Don't ride in the door zone
I'm glad we have them, but I really don't like a lot of the bike lanes in Seattle because they put the cyclist right in the way of opening doors. I often feel safer on a street without bike lanes so I can ride a good 5-6 feet away from the parked cars. I've never had a driver be agressive towards me when I'm riding like that. I wonder if it's because I am being treated more like another car than a cyclist?
Have a look at what happens when a driver opens their door onto a cyclist and you'll understand why I get scared:
Seattle Ranks #2 in bicycle commuting nationwide
Well, that's according to this little spreadsheet from the League of American Bicyclists.
Up 93% in the decade 2000-2010, and 22% from 2009 to 2010.
Of course that's the share of all commuters that are riding bikes in Seattle not the total number, so somewhere like NYC beats us in total numbers.
Burke Gilman Detour finally posted. Closure begins on June 15
Have a look at the project page for more information, or download the detour turn-by-turn directions (.pdf), here.
